Next: Last League

So our games in Kirkkonummi weren’t that perfect. In Championship league we ended at 3rd place with Trivoga taking both top positions. In the Semi match Trivoga Silver showed great skill in changing their play againsta us. In Div1 again we were slow to start, with a lot of mistakes in the prelims. Still we got through to semis and finals, but GameOver was too tough an opponent, like all season.

After Kirkkonummi we had our end-season break week, when everyone got to heal their wounds and do those “family-oriented” activities. After that we’ve been playing a lot of game trainings and have rebuilt the field twice. We have to say we like the Paris layout better that the Austrian. The Austrian field felt like something developed outside Ring three whilst drunk. But enough of Bit*hing.

The last League round in Mikkeli will be this caturday. First Div is going to play the morning and League the afternoon. We feel strongly that the we have the teams to take the first in both divisions. In league we have calculated that we need fifth place to win the whole Series. Something that has been bad this year, is that official standings haven’t been published publicly. In div one I guess overall we have a chance for second or third place.  After the games we will celebrate our great Finnish season and party. It’s also nice that many of the wives/girlfriends/boyfriends/KitchenAid’s are comming along to see what this thing is all about.

LiveLeague will continue, with running scores for both League and Div 0ne. Div two and three are out of the question,  because of time management issues. This time we will have a dedicated person, who will run the scores and will run on cheap Finnish lager. This way our players (that being me) can concentrate on the games. If we will get somekind of sponsorship for this thing next year, we might do all the divisions.

After this week our training goes to a lower gear. Some of our domestic tournament players will probably slow their training schedule to one or two trainings per week. Of course we will have Millennium Paris to go, and Cyclone family will support our Mill players as much as possible, with team-game trainings still mandatory for all.

SPBL Kirkkonummi photos are up!

While waiting for the article, check out the gallery! We’re working on a summary of the event and our escapades, so stay tuned!

Cyclone LiveLeague Round Kirkkonummi (3/4)

So here it is. The first version of Cyclone LiveLeague. The system isn’t perfect, but we’ll test this thing. If it is a success, based on hits and usability, we’ll do both League and First Division for the last round in Mikkeli. So keep on hitting that refresh button for scores tomorrow.

Greg Hastings’s got a brand new bag, out in stores soon

via Gamesradar

So Greg’s new game is comming out 29th September. No word for Euro release. The game looks ok by itself (I’ll come back to it shortly), but more interesting is the quote about Activi$ion. It allways makes a good news story, when mega-corps attack private entrepeneurs and that one quote got the attention of gameblogging sites like Kotaku. We see the situation from Hastings’s point of view only, and while it might be a as well a marketing trick , it’s allways nice to see the under dog win. Greg’s enthusiasm on the conference is alltogether a nice change to marketing-machine made presentations we are used to.

The game itself looks like a reiteration of the original. Screenshots show forest and concept and supair-ball with 7 to 10 man teams. In one shot you can see a huge x-bunker – might that mean that we’ll get to play 5-man xball’ish also? Graphics are as bad as expected with human meatpupets playing the parts of players. Woodsland gamings hasn’t interested me since we moved out of the woods to savannah in the early 00’s and the game engine doesn’t seem to support true sup-air game with un formable bunkers.

One thing that I’d like to see, as a good service the paintball community, would be to introduce the next PSP-NPPL-Millennium fields live through Console’s downloadable content for a few €. I for one, would like to play and walk the fields before hand from the comfort of home with a beer or two in the cooler. For that feature alone, I might even buy the game, even if it is bad. And could we have NHL like comentating done by Mr Marshall: “And the Game is on”.

As a gamer and paintballer it’s good to see both industries mix. Personally I will wait for the reviews before picking this one up.

Upcoming League and Our Hiatus of The Internet

As you’ve noticed, we’ve been having a break of this internet thing due to holidays, births, lazyness. Updates both here and in fecesbook have been rare. Here’s a little update. After the pro school, we’ve been training at our venue 2-3 times a week. Just yesterday we had a game day with Trivoga. Thanks guys! It was a joy to play in the almost cold 25C (that’s 77F for those people still riding their horses to work their lords demesne). We managed only a couple of games, while field walking took much of our time. Personally I would have prefered more game points, but we got a good read of the field.

Millennium Basildon 2010 – Saturday and Sunday

To start Saturday we had one victory in and one tight loss in our pocket. We were anticipating a tight game against our good friends the Amsterdam Sabotage 2 so we changed our strategy so that we would push way harder from the midfield and M-side to compensate the lack of aggression seen in our games on Friday.  The winner would secure a spot on Sunday so the stakes were high.

Millennium Basildon 2010 – Friday

Today was a day of mixed feelings. We got to the site a bit before midday, and the place was hot already with quite a bit of moisture in the air, sucking a lot of energy off the players. We had no bigger issues as we had a proper pile of water, fruits and sports drinks to keep us going for the couple of games we had scheduled.

Millennium London Schedule

Our first game will be against Spartans Athens at 14:30 GMT.

Next 16:30 against 7ene Compagnie Nancy.

Last Prelim will be in Caturday 14:00 against our friends Amsterdam Sabotage 2.

It’s a pity that the Div 1. is only a shadow of it’s former self. Playing against the same teams is a bit boring.Bonus side for this is that you get to know your opponents better: Do they play aggressive or defensive, if they have starplayers, how good their aim is, etc. The other thing to keep in mind is that often the roster of a team can change drastically between tournaments. At least ours has. We have about 12 persons on the active European tournament roster and those are seeded to play tournaments according to free time/money/performance. Good thing about this is that we are more unpredictable. Down side in this is that, because Paintball as a team sport on our level demands that you know the playing styles of your field mates intimately, the optimal mix of styles are not always achieved. I feel that in London we have a great team on site and expect results to confirm this. So you better step up boys!

Hopefully our guys will fill our hungry minds with results and thoughts here or in Facebook

Victorious at last!

Five years.

That’s a long time by any standard. For a team that has been almost completely rebuilt and then nourished in the shadow of past success, it’s a long time to struggle for those rare rays of light. Already at the end of last season we felt that we are definitely on the right path, and the team headed into the off-season with a clear goal to make the last push to the top.  A lot of hard work has been put in, the countless hours of practises have finally started to pay dividends. Helsinki Cyclone won again.
