Thoughts on Physical Training

I’m the first to admit that I hate winter. Especially this one where all warmth has left us Finns to the embrace of record snow falls and at worst -25 degrees Celsius temperatures and gusty winds. This has been a time, when I’ve doubted my sense to go jogging into the bitter cold. Thank the maker for gyms and central heating.

I believe that physical fitness is something Finnish Paintballers aren’t concentrating enough on. Of course we, the competition paintballers, have left behind the time, when our back players were all over 30 BMI. Still, Cyclones target for this year: getting to play all the games in the final day of all the Millennium tournaments, is something I think few of us Finns are equipped to deal with. It really takes endurance both from the body and mind to keep pushing through those snakes point after point and game after game.

What’s up?

What’s up guys? I decided to write something what’s going on with me and cali paintballing.

Four weeks to the first PSP event. We have been practicing a lot, weekend after weekend.. If I’m talking true so I’m getting little bit tired of this but I want to get so much better so I have to keep practicing hard. Actually we are going to Arizona to play AZPPL this weekend, I think we are going to win that tournament.. hopefully. But still we have to practice more if we want to win PSP. And everyone in the team says that we are not even close to that level what we have to be if we want to win the PSP. So we have to grind hard and yeah.
Last weekend we played few points against Ironmen. They are so good and they killed us. By the way it’s pretty cool to get bunkered by Oliver Lang. But yeah, when you practice against Ironmen you will learn so much, you can’t do any mistakes or you are done.

Video from Kasimir’s Team Practise!

Kasimir let us know that Velocity Wrecking Crew has pretty much disbanded, and most of the team players moved to Nicky Cuba’s youth project, the NuSkool University. Last weekend the team had its first real practise session, on Saturday they did mostly drills and such, and on Sunday they got to practise against Aftermath II and SD Mob.

Here’s a video shot over the weekend by R.A.R films:

Kasimir to train with VWC

Now that the PSP season is over, Kasimir’s training arrangements have been finalized. During the PSP off-season Kasimir will be training with Velocity Wrecking Crew, a very solid D2 & D3 team from the area. After a few weeks’ breather, VWC will start practicing on weekends. Meaning both days, naturally.  Kasimir will also be doing a lot of drills with Mikko.

We will see if Kasimir is able to play some PSP events during the early part of the season 2010, we are keeping our fingers crossed!

Returning From Riga

Our Malaga Practise tourament was extremely useful, we got 19 points on the field with etremely good opponents, two SPL teams (Instinct and Sigur) and one CPL team (Chilli Peppers). We are satisfied with our games, even though we didn’t make the cut into the finals. A quick summary of the games:

Beyond Sweat

A few weeks ago Cyclone had a nice chill-out weekend over at my place watching the PSP Phoenix webcast and munching through a pile of burritos. Having a big part of the guys over and watching the ‘cast was a good way to spend a weekend out of harms’ way but it also had a more profound meaning in revealing some aspects of training that I had not considered in such depths. Hearing Matt Marshall mention game momentum and mental tenacity time and time again really resonated with me, and a thought stuck to the back of my head. How can we as individuals and as a team achieve the proper mentality to be able to turn games around?

Millennium Malaga warmup.

Our friends Instinct Gemoss Liepaja from Latvia are putting up an event in Riga this comming weekend so we will also be heading down south across the boarder.

The event will be played with Malaga layout so this will be a good warmup for us also. Its gona be our first chanse to play outside this year and it will be intersting to see how the field plays out. First few games will for sure be tough before we get our game going as we havent had any possibility to train inside this whole winter. It’s sure gona be fun to have the chanse to do some real balling!

Riga Recap!

A great trip but right here, right now I’m tired as ever!

Somewhat surprisingly, this time around the trip went like a breeze. No problems whatsoever with the law & order, we didn’t even miss the ships, no fatal car crashes, no one went to demand the consigliore to get supplies from McDonalds or for other entertainment…and overall, nothing which “didn’t occur” occurred. Weird? Continue reading ‘Riga Recap!’ »
